Safety Commitment

Kesher is a non-profit organization with a proud tradition of serving the Jewish world for over 100 years. The well-being of our participants is our guiding priority and commitment. Since 1999, over 400,000 young adults have used their gift to explore Israel in times of quiet and in times of tension. No trip has been canceled, and the program’s track record has been impeccable.

Behind this history is a systematic approach to security — and while security is our priority, we are equally committed to providing you with a meaningful and entirely enjoyable experience. In Israel, these two priorities are not mutually exclusive

The following are our core approaches to providing a safe and secure experience in Israel:

Each group is accompanied at all times by a licensed security escort and a trained medic, most of whom have recently completed their military service.

Our itineraries are approved in advance and re-approved daily by the “Situation Monitoring Room,” a special unit administered by the Ministry of Education and coordinated with Israel’s security services.

Each group leader carries a GPS communication device to ensure they are in contact with the security agencies and with our main office at all times.

We do not use public transportation. Rather, our travel is on a private coach bus with experienced drivers trained to keep the bus secured.

We only stay at overnight accommodations with security personnel on site and equipped with secure rooms in accordance with Israel’s high standards.

We plan our itineraries with caution in mind — being careful to avoid areas of potentially heightened concern and always traveling with discretion.

We make every effort to give you space and time to explore Israel on your own. However, per Birthright Israel rules, there is no leaving the group except for designated nights out.

If necessary, we do not hesitate to modify itineraries in the interest of safety. Decisions are made carefully and based on guidance from the authorities monitoring Birthright Israel trips.

Soon after arriving in Israel, your trip leaders will get you oriented for the adventure ahead, including briefing you on all the tips you need to travel smart and safe.

The Government of Israel is an official partner of Birthright Israel and takes an active interest and role in the safety of the experience.

A note about life in Israel
It’s no secret that Israel takes security seriously. The government employs an extensive approach to securing its public spaces, its people, and its visitors. While the peace we all ultimately yearn for still remains elusive, you may be surprised to discover for yourself that Israeli society is full of vibrancy, joy, and a very deep sense of kinship.

We understand how important it is to travel with confidence. Should you have any questions about our polices and approach, we encourage you to contact us by email ([email protected]) or phone (202-370-4026) to learn more.
